Help with your pool design

Getting a swimming pool  designed and installed is a large investment, and includes many on-going costs which you need to budget for. Below you’ll find hints, tips, things to consider and help with you new pool to avoid any errors further along the line. We are also happy to go through the options available face-to-face.

Planning your location

When planning the location of your new swimming pool, there are several things to consider to avoid problems at a later date.

  • Is the location of the pool flat? Sounds strange to say, but if the area of land you are considering is already level, this can save additional costs at the beginning of your project. The type of soil you have at your premises can have an effect on the construction, so please check with our team to avoid unforeseen building costs.
  • What surrounds this area? Consider what will be surrounding your pool area – while trees are nice an natural, the droppage of leaves & branches can cause additional cleaning costs and possible damage to coverings. Also, do you get sunlight on the area you’re considering – do surrounding trees, fences or buildings cause a shadow? The more sunlight you can get on the pool, the better, as it helps keep the pool warmer.
  • Outbuildings – your location will need to have sufficient space for pumps, changing & shower facilities (optional), landscaping, and of course the surround of your pool so you can easily get in and out and lounge by the pool.
  • Access to the site – during construction, your site might need to be accessed by machinery for digging, removal of soil and delivery of the components. You’ll also need to have electricity and water near to your pool, so this needs to be considered before construction begins.
  • Above or below ground? Your new pool can be built either above or below ground, so deciding this at the design stage is important.
  • Shape and Size. Your new pool can be built to any shape or size and out of several materials. There are some standard shapes that are popular (see further down this page).

Other considerations

Other things to consider:

  • Do not cut corners when it comes to a pool cover! Getting a good quality pool cover is highly encouraged.
  • Keeping the pool clean – there will be on-going costs when owning your own pool, including the chemicals you put in the pool and keeping the pool and filetrs clean.
